Qigong

Qigong is to Chinese Medicine what Yoga is to Ayurveda. A deep, profound exercise system linked to a healthcare system and way of life. A way of looking at a practical difference between the two is, in Yoga you stretch to release, whereas in Qigong you release to stretch. Both achieving similar goals in different ways.

Qigong literally means energy work, which in essence refers to an energetic workout for the body. It is also concerned with balancing the Five Elements, which correspond to five key organs of the body.

Forms

There are thousands of different Qigong sets, in countless styles. It has moving forms and static standing postures, with both being incredibly effective at creating a healthy body and mind. One of my main practices is Dragon and Tiger Medical Qigong. This is a 7 movement set and has its origins in Buddhism. It is especially good at developing your feeling of Qi, and uses key meridian channels in its movements, making it also very helpful for acupuncturists.

Dragon and Tiger is a great introduction to Qigong because it possesses great value. In the sense, for something relatively simple, with so few moves, it gives excellent results.
